Lately, with the introduction of features like AskAlteryx, it feels like the screen space in Designer has become a bit cramped.

The Solution for Using Your Screen Space More Efficiently
Having multiple monitors would solve the problem instantly, but there may be times when you can’t set up such an environment, such as when you’re out and about.
In Designer, the following windows are separate:
- Overview
- Results
- Configuration
- Interface Designer
- Ask Alteryx
When organizing the layout of these windows, you typically make a window floating and drag it. As you drag it over the canvas, you will see markers like the ones shown in the screenshot.
If you hover your mouse cursor over one of the arrows, the window you are dragging will be placed in that corresponding position.
By the way, have you ever noticed that when you drag a window over the Configuration or Results windows, an icon appears allowing you to drop it right in the center?
Let’s try dropping it into that center section as following.
The result is following.
Surprisingly, you can now use tabs to switch between Ask Alteryx and the Configuration window within the same panel!
I use this method to overlay the interface designer and the Configuration window.
You can do the same thing with the Results window, but since vertical display space is crucial for results, it doesn’t feel quite as practical. Ultimately, this approach seems much better suited for the Configuration window side.
To clarify, this feature simply allows you to overlay windows and switch between them using tabs at a specific position. While I am referring to the “Configuration window side” here, you are technically overlaying and tab-switching windows against whichever window is docked on the left edge of the screen. Of course, you can overlay and switch them using tabs no matter where you position them—top, bottom, left, or right.
Generally speaking, positioning them on the left or right side and using tabs to switch between them seems to be the most practical setup.
